I've been using one since 2020. They are also called Estim in some circles. The one I have now has 2 channels so you can work 2 muscle groups or areas. It has reusable electrodes that tie into a small device about the size of a calculator. Firdt you place the electrodes on the muscles you want to work. You then set the pattern of "massage" you want. It will then send electric pulses to the muscles the electrodes are attached to. The electrodes come in different sizes of different muscle groups. I use one large one (about 6x6) for my lower back, neck or shoulder, a medium size for quads and the smaller ones for a more pinpoint isolated therapy.
Generally speaking, its like any therapy: consistency and repetition is key. I try and use it another 3 times a week on the really painful areas now. At first I was using it daily. After about 2-3 weeks I noticed a real difference. I still have nerve pain, mind you. As you know it will never entirely go away, but this has made it much more bearable. When the barometric pressure changes, I'm still reaching for advil- cbd CBD soon replace that. But, the pain is far more manageable with this.
Its so effective that it actually will make my paralyzed muscles contract. After a 15 minute session on my quads i feel like a ran a race.
You can adjust the pattern and intensity of the massage. On most units you can adjust each channel independently. When I was in physical therapy they had one hooked up to an excercise bike that let me ride the bike under my own muscle movement.
Sorry for the wall of text, I get excited about these things.
This is similar to mine, some of the different size pads you can buy in addition to later or what not
