atomizers for concentrates?

its been a while since i looked into atomizers for concentrates. way back in the early days i tried a couple ego style/vision spinner kinda pens with various atomizers for concentrates and flower. the most recent one was the yocan nyx. it worked ok, but the coil heads burn out too fast, the airflow sucks and the overall design was messy, sticky and not as convenient as i pictured it in my head.

ideally i would love to see a rebuildable atomizer that fits on a 510 connection/regular vape device and its designed specifically for concentrates. anyone know of anything like that? i have tried using a regular rda, but the whole experiment was a train wreck imo. it worked but it wasnt ideal. theres a chance that a different rda would work better, but it made such a mess and there are other problems that made me not want to try again.

@St.Roostifer could you tell me a bit about the one you posted a pic of in the concentrates thread? or any other ones you have tried?

Oh man, I tried the same thing with a few rdas. Flaptons worked OK when made into a flat griddle but messy and the griddle had to be flat or the dab would slide right off, lol!

I've tried some wax attys and found most to be an utter pain because they use a bottom airflow design so they flood very easy if too big of a dab is loaded. Pissed me off when I discovered the amount of concentrates that flooded into the base of that one.

These first two pics are of a Sai atomizer from Humboldt Vape Tech. This one, and many like it, use bottom airflow in their coils and flood easy. I've seen plenty of clones under other brand names using this exact design atty. Good old China LMAO!

I honestly wouldn't waste money or concentrate on anything with bottom airflow.

More to follow...

I have found two attys sold by two companies but the exact same design. The even use the same coils.

These pics are of a Dazzvape Melter atty. Think they have four or five colors available and come with a battery there's no way I would use for those coils because they are titanium. The atty works awesome tho! The airflows sit above the coils so no flooding.

This is from a company out of Florida called Honeystick and the atty is called the Extreme. This is the exact same atty as the daze vape Meter but is only available in SS, no colors. Nice thing is the atty can be purchased alone without a battery. Both use the same coils (pictured below) and it just so happens I got three five packs of coils from Honeystick today. I love vape mail!

i tried cat track coils set like half a mm from the deck. a very quick pulse on the power to warm them up (could still barely touch them without getting a burn), then i would touch some shatter to them and it would suck right in. was only good for a couple puffs though, then you have to take the cap off and reload, which is where all the mess and hassle come in. also tried some experiments with that setup with regular wicks and juice. got more puffs per reload this way, but still not ideal, still just as messy etc.

those coil heads look way better than the nyx ones i was using...i just wish that was a postless rebuildable deck in there. the rest looks perfect. how long do the coils last you? is that setup a daily banger/primary delivery system for you?

Yeah this is my primary way medicating. Sometimes I'll lick the dab tool before I clean it with an alcohol wipe...nice little kick.

Not sure how long the coils last because I just recently discovered that less is more. The coils gunked up quick when over-loaded and especially if it's sitting in my pocket collecting lint. But now I put a little less than a rice grain sized dab and puff in TC until it's gone instead of leaving something for later.

I do get kinda lazy at work as seen in the pic below. That was yesterday at lunch, lol.

i noticed that with the nyx too, but taking the caps (the nyx has two that are both completely sticky after a few puffs) off was such a hassle that i found myself intentionally over loading it just to avoid having to reload it so often...which makes them only last a few days before they die, and multiplies the air flow problems 🤬

Holy sh*t dude it took me forever to figure out not to overload it. Vaping the dab all the way down and using the dab tool for cleaning help a lot.

Wow man, I've looked at the nyx I don't know how many times and passed on it. Glad I did.

The Extreme and Melter attys both have magnetic caps which is another huge plus for me, especially on the go when ya need to pack an emergency dab at a red light. Or while quickly and inconspicuously packing one on the go while at work, lmfao!

yeah they are not for people like us. i imagine it would be good for someone just starting out though. it did impress me at first when it was all clean and fresh...

i think ill check one of them out. i still wish it was rebuildable but if the coils last a while and it takes a bit of the pain out of using the nyx it seems like a good replacement.

I have thought about making some quad 26/38 Clapton's for the rda I used before. But I've been very lazy about building...dunno why?!?

I haven't come across a rebuildable yet but this one has the right idea...

very interesting quote at the bottom of the page though...

These are actual coils made by Advanced Vape Supply, that were installed in my Sai Cups, so you don't have to rebuild them anymore.
maybe ill have a look around there later and see if i can figure out what hes getting at there.

wow nice find. that sounds pretty much perfect. nice postless deck and top airflow. definitely worth checking that out. i wish it was 24 or 25mm instead of 15 though. i wonder if thats a design choice? bigger chamber might not work as well...whats the diameter of the melter/extreme?

So as said newb, the Yocan would be okay? I’ve not seen the Nyx, but I’ve seen other Yocans. I wonder.

So if you have a bunch of coils for it, you’d be okay? Thanks, M.

it should be ok. i know a couple people who have other yocan stuff (like the all-in-one looking pen/stick with the built in atomizer) and they are working well for them. after seeing a couple of the newer options today i would like to try some of them out before i made a real recommendation to anyone though. my nyx does work ok, you just have to be really careful not to overfill it, and probably clean it out twice as often as i did (and still have a little rag near by to wipe your fingers on because that inner cap will almost always have some goo on it after a few puffs).

I saw the AIO looking one, it looked nice! I broke out my X Max Pro and tried it again. I’m not getting any vapor at all, though. It’s getting hot but no smoke/vapor is coming out! Very weird.

can you taste anything? a lot of flower vapes dont produce anything visible unless you turn them up higher than recommended. some of them also take a while to get warm from what i understand. i have only tried a few but in my first pen style one, the only way i could tell it was working was the flower turned brown and crispy eventually. might have been shitty flower with no flavor? i did get a buzz by the time it turned brown...but i found it a little unsatisfying.

Well, there was a bit of flavor. But I didn’t get any effects! Lol

I feel comfortable smoking it now, I think. It’s just easier. :lazy:

Thanks, you helped me a lot.
